My cousin recently went to have her engagement ring cleaned in advance of her April wedding. While waiting to speak to the technician she overheard a conversation that led me to contemplate the four C’s of diamond selection.
The story goes like this; a newly engage couple was speaking to the jeweler. The bride-to-be was aggressively questioning the color and clarity of the diamond leaving her fiancé to cower sheepishly as she continued the interrogation. While my cousin told the story I started to think about myself and my personal life; realizing this couple was missing exactly what I’ve been missing on recent dates, I’ll call it the fifth C, compatibility.
I wondered, what qualities make a man compatible? Who knows? I can only list the things that have driven me to decline first or second dates. Men who disliked women, kids and/or pets? Not compatible. Guys who wish to trade favors for investment advice? Also, not compatible. Remember the blind date I mentioned in a previous BLOG? He didn’t own a car and couldn’t figure out how get to New Jersey from the Upper West Side. 53 years old and no car? Why would I waste my time?
So while past dates haven’t worked out I’ve decided that compatibility, in whatever form, is an essential quality when considering future social commitments. A bit of chemistry and laugh lines wouldn’t hurt either.
Have a great week,
